I am obsessed with the printed word! My entire academic and professional career has centered around the study and instruction of the English language. For the past six years, I have been an instructor of English composition and grammar at the college level. Prior to this professional experience, I studied the history of the English language, earning a Master's degree in 1996 and a Ph.D. in 1998, both in Linguistics, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before my graduate career in linguistics, I was employed as a proofreader at Academic Press, one of the world's foremost publishers in academia. I was responsible for proofreading and copyediting articles for academic journals in the social and engineering sciences. As a scholar of English and an editor of the sciences, accuracy in grammar and spelling is of paramount importance in my work.
