My Name is Matthew Nelson. I am a native English speaker and learned Spanish since I was a young boy. Previously, I worked for the United States Army in an active duty component as a 35M Human Intelligence Collector (Interrogator). Through the Army, I was afforded the opportunity to attend the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, California. There, I was immersed in a 64 week intensive language course taught by Chinese and Taiwanese nationals and I received my status as a linguist in Chinese, Mandarin. While learning from the leading language immersion institute in the nation, I was able to take away not only a deep love and connection with the Chinese language, but also its distinctive and profound culture. While at DLIFLC, I took the extra steps necessary to earn my Associate of Arts degree in Foreign Language (Chinese, Mandarin. Currently, I am attending the University of Maryland University College and specializing in East Asian Studies. I have an insatiable desire for knowledge and love languages. I look forward to working for you as your personal translator.
