I am a foreign medical graduate and consider myself a medical translator because I am completely familiar with the medical vocabulary. I studied medicine in Guatemala (classes in spanish) but the books were in English so I found myself constantly translating medical texts from English into Spanish for myself and my peers. And I obtained a Master's Degree in Epidemiology at the University of Miami. Because of my family background I have lived and studied in the United States and Guatemala and I have been completely bilingual since childhood. I read and write both english and spanish fluently as well. I have experience in translating medical insurance documents for various companies, research papers for physicians presenting work in Latin America, brochures for clinics and hospitals, referral letters, etc. All of my translations are done directly by me because so much of the meaning is lost by doing computerized translations or doing medical translations by someone who does not understand the medical concepts that are being adressed.
