I have been studying various languages since 4 years of age, and thus while only fluent in a few, have great ability to quickly identify and work within new structures of grammar, vocabulary, and style. I have worked with numerous different dialects of Spanish, as I have experience studying in Chile, working in Chile, Mexico, Ecuador and Costa Rica, and traveling widely throughout the Latin American continent. My most recent job was working with an international organization (while I was based in Chile), so that I had professional contact with Spanish and Portuguese speakers from numerous dialects. Approximately 25% of my work responsibilities were focused on translation; mostly in the realm of training manuals, theology books, and fund development materials. I also recently finished a translation from Spanish to English of an autobiographical account of a medical disaster experienced by a Paraguayan woman. My undergraduate honors thesis was based on original translation (as well as analysis of the language used) of several short stories by a Mexican author. I hope to soon be taking a TESOL course in Buenos Aires, thus deepending even further my knowledge of the structure and uses of language.
