What a ServiceScape children's book editor will do for you

Reading a children's book

When you hire a ServiceScape children’s book editor, the process will begin with the fundamental corrections that you would expect from any professional editor. However, ServiceScape editors believe in going further to ensure that your children’s book is the best it can be.

Your ServiceScape editor will leave comments in the margins for any issues that require additional clarification. They may even suggest rewrites if they feel there could be a more effective way to get your point across. By the time we are finished, your writing will be enhanced so your voice as an author can shine through. Specifically, our editors will:

  • Correct errors in spelling, grammar, syntax, tense, and sentence structure
  • Assess age appropriateness and ensure that word choice, vocabulary, and content are on target
  • Assess rhyme and meter for rhyming books
  • Recommend art and text page layout for picture books
  • Ensure that your book adheres to any required style guide, such as the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Improve readability, clarity, and flow
  • Ensure tonal consistency
  • Check for consistency in regional English spelling conventions, including American, British, Canadian, and Australian
  • Recommend removing redundant and unnecessary content to focus your writing
  • Evaluate your manuscript and make sure that your ideas are fully developed
  • Offer feedback on the overall impact of the book
