I have until very recently worked with EditAvenue under the name sheppardfrancis. Over four years I have made the transition, with regard to text in English, from Teacher and Examiner to Proofreader and Copy Editor. Over the previous years in the classroom, I always found time to organise school publications, and found satisfaction in bringing to light what was initially good writing, if grammatically inept. Now, locally, I help a local author prepare his series of novels for publication. This shift in career I am at present undertaking is the result of the same impulse that led me to teach - I want to help others to make their thought explicit. Training as Proofreader has prepared me for the exacting standard of accuracy in the publishing industry. The training that I have recently completed - Copy Editing - has given me experience of working with ideas of readership and therefore voice, complemented by the skills of marking-up and addressing questions to authors. Having competence now in these aspects of editing, I have begun working online, having regular proofreading, as well as occasional transcribing, for OnizuMarketing, a UK-based internet marketing consultancy. Wishing to build on this and earlier knowledge of marketing, gained from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (see below), I am looking for lengthy marketing texts, both academic and popular, to edit. I can bring wide experience and well-learnt skills to bear.
