Having ideas is one thing and conveying them by writing is quite another. Not all can write the way it should be. Besides, I authored the Book 'Geo-scientific Writing—A Guide to Composition and Style', the first of its genre, which has been widely acclaimed as the most comprehensive guide. When I edit, I try to evolve a style that is unambiguously clear, simple but forthright, and concise without being sketchy. Also, I focus on smooth (without any speed-breakers) and rhythmic reading. While different levels of editing are required to achieve all this, I prefer to remain focused mostly on three aspects: Choosing the most appropriate word, constructing simple and parallel sentences and steering clear of redundancy. Once these three are taken care of, most of the other things fall in place by themselves. One most important precaution I take in editing is to observe utmost discretion in tampering with the original text, because I believe that whoever be the editor or whatever be the level of editing, the original flavor—the signature style—of the author must be preserved. On the discipline front, I steadfastly adhere to deadline commitments.
