Jamaal As-Salaam is first a poet, playwright, producer and writer. He has lived in LA for 15 years, and is recognized for his many efforts. His poem ¡§Conjecture¡¨ was awarded the Editor¡¦s Choice in the National Poetry Anthology of 1996. His poem dedicated to his oldest daughter; ¡§Mieko¡¨ will be published in 1999 in the anthology Black Love edited by Dr. Francis Barnes. Jamaal has been listed in Who¡¦s Who Among Black Playwrights since 1984 and has been nominated to be listed in Who¡¦s Who in the World/America for 2000 & 2001. He is a notable person whose talents stretch across several disciplines. Such poets as Amiri Baraka, Quincy Troupe, Ntozake Shange, and Simeon Ortiz and many others have tutored him. He has read and slammed his poems in Taos, New York City, Denver, and San Francisco and Los Angeles. Most recently involved with LA in Support for Gang Truce, Cal Arts Partnership, and he has completed 3 digital video projects currently on CD.
