For the past 8 years, I've spent my working hours reading the convoluted business-speak and tortured tech-speak of men and women with advanced degrees and expansive minds. I add a comma here, subtract one there, un-dangle a modifier or two and, without changing the content or meaning, turn the writing into business-speak that the tech guys can understand, or tech-speak that the MBAs can comprehend. In short, I make the writer sound like the intelligent person he or she is. I've taken eight undergraduate and nine graduate creative-writing workshops, in which I read approximately 9,000 pages of fiction -- both for children and for adults -- memoir, poetry, and screenplay. I enjoy the challenge of finding the main theme of a work -- sometimes nearly submerged in a swamp of too many words and too much exposition -- and helping the writer to concentrate on that theme and let it color the entire work.
