While serving time as a Trade publisher, I contracted and edited best-sellers like "The Amityville Horror," "W.C. Fields & Me," and over 100 other published titles. At Prentice-Hall and later at Running Press, I edited roughly 130 other books, often rewriting them from scratch--so that I didn't have to reject the orginally inept manuscript. (I always wrote the flap and cover copy for them, too.) Ever since, I've been coaching and editing would-be authors (including some best-selling writers whose latest manuscripts hit snags). My last client wrote a book on the topic that I suggested was most appropriate for his background--and is now the top-selling author on his publisher's list. So my advice seems to pay off!
