I am a freelance copy editor for McGraw-Hill publishing company. I have been doing freelance writing and editing for about three years now. I edit for agreement, clarity, word usage, punctuation, flow and overall consistency and style. I am currently an instructor at Ohio State University. I teach the copy editing class and a writing class to upper-level journalism students. I also advise Ohio State's newspaper, The Lantern, in the summers. I worked as a teaching assistant for The Lantern for three years. At The Lantern, I coach writers and copy edit stories, among other things. I have a master's degree from Ohio State. My focus was on interpersonal communication in relationships (marriage, parent-child, friendships, etc). I have had two articles published in academic journals, one is the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships about long-distance relationships. I completed most of my coursework for my doctorate (needed 27 more quarter hours before my candidacy exams). But "life" got in the way. I did write a master's thesis: “Self-esteem in romantic relationships: An investigation of negatively perceived messages and their association with state and global self-esteem.” My bachelor's degree is in public relations and journalism. I worked for my college newspaper for three years as a reporter, copy editor, sports editor and managing editor. I am currently writing a textbook on copy editing.
