I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature (1972) from Louisiana State University and a law degree from L.S.U. in 1979. I have been practicing law for 21 years, and I would like to change careers. I believe that it would be fair to say that I am extremely well read. (Additionally, my work as a lawyer has required years of writing, editing and re-writing legal documents, briefs, etc. This work has also made me acutely aware of the vast amount of grammatically bad writing in the academic as well as business, legal, government world, etc. I believe those who are able to write well will tell you that the hardest thing to do in the world is to write a simple, accurate, sometimes pleasing, sentence stating exactly what you want to say. If nothing else is done to writing than to correct grammatical errors and then simplify the sentence structure, then one has gone far, I think, to do a good or even excellent job of editing. I can also be of help to foreign students who may still be in the process of learning English. I myself once took a one year intensive training course in Chinese Mandarin while in the military. I can understand the phrasing problems that foreign students have with English.
